A 25 month drawing expedition through the Greek Islands, Poland, Norway, Iceland, Portugal (including Madeira), Morocco, South and Central America.
This selection of pastel and charcoal drawings is from a collection of over 700 works on paper done during this solo expedition starting in Greece in November 08 and finishing in Mexico in December 10.
All works were done directly from the subject (plein air style) and many were done in extreme weather conditions including sub zero temperatures, high altitude, storm force winds, plus-40 degree heat, snow storms, heavy rain, hail, dust and insect attack . These conditions are part of the drawing process for my works on paper and the expressive power of nature’s elements.
As with my previous plein air works on paper done in the Tasmanian wilderness and in other parts of the world over the past 20 years, these works also form the basis for developing my studio based paintings and drawings.
A selection of plein air works on paper 2008/10 are below. Sizes are from 50 x 40 cm to 30 x 21 cm.
